From 30 September to 4 October, a selection of my work will be presented at Affordable Art Fair Stockholm. I will be showing the ongoing exploration of colour, memory, geometry and the traces we leave behind.

Among the newest paintings are Holes in the Veil of Time and Seeds of Silence. I have never been particularly interested in finding one style and remaining there. What interests me is the moment when an image begins to change — when abstraction becomes landscape, geometry becomes space, or the human body becomes form.

Alongside the paintings, I have been working on Traces, a series of large 120 × 120 cm assemblages and reliefs made from materials found in the studio, the garden and the surrounding landscape. Wood, metal, mosaic, fabric, plastic and discarded objects are given another life. Some of these works have also been allowed to change through the hands of visitors to my studio.

The Trip to Bothithong is developing into an artist’s book based on photographs made during a journey through South Africa with Tiisetso. The project grew from ordinary days together — travelling, visiting family, waiting, laughing and simply being present. I rarely asked her to pose. My work was mostly to pay attention.

The book combines photographs with short poetic texts. It is not intended as a conventional portrait or travel book, but as a story about presence, trust, intimacy, memory and what remains after two people have shared a period of their lives.

Painting, photography, sculpture, assemblage, writing and music may appear to be different languages. Increasingly, I experience them as parts of the same conversation.

After more than fifty years of making art, I am less interested in repeating what I already know than in discovering what I have not yet understood.

NYA VERK — HÖSTEN 2026

De här senaste månaderna har varit en ovanligt intensiva i min ateljé.

Mellan 30 september och 4 oktober visas ett urval av mina verk på Affordable Art Fair Stockholm. Jag kommer att visa både nya och tidigare arbeten, däribland målningar ur ett pågående utforskande av färg, minne, geometri och de spår vi lämnar efter oss.

Bland de senaste målningarna finns Holes in the Veil of Time, Seeds of Silence och The Geography of Desire.

Jag har aldrig varit särskilt intresserad av att hitta en enda stil och sedan stanna där. Det som intresserar mig är ögonblicket när en bild börjar förändras — när abstraktion blir landskap, när geometri blir rum eller när människokroppen blir form.

Parallellt med måleriet arbetar jag med Traces, en serie stora assemblage och reliefer i formatet 120 × 120 cm, byggda av material jag hittar i ateljén, trädgården och landskapet omkring mig. Trä, metall, mosaik, textil, plast och övergivna föremål får ett nytt liv. Några av verken har också fått förändras genom händerna på besökare i min ateljé.

The Trip to Bothithong håller på att utvecklas till en konstnärsbok baserad på fotografier från en resa genom Sydafrika tillsammans med Tiisetso. Projektet växte fram ur våra vanliga dagar tillsammans — resor, familjebesök, väntan, skratt och den enkla närvaron i stunden. Jag bad henne sällan att posera. Mitt arbete var framför allt att vara uppmärksam.

Boken kombinerar fotografier med korta poetiska texter. Den är inte tänkt som en traditionell porträtt- eller resebok, utan som en berättelse om närvaro, tillit, intimitet, minne och om det som finns kvar efter att två människor har delat en tid av sina liv.

Måleri, fotografi, skulptur, assemblage, skrivande och musik kan tyckas vara olika språk. Alltmer upplever jag dem som delar av samma samtal.

Efter mer än femtio år av konstnärligt skapande är jag mindre intresserad av att upprepa det jag redan vet än av att upptäcka det jag ännu inte har förstått.
